Tonight's benefit dinner (at Custom House, 500 S Dearborn) will benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository's 86 Hunger series. Tickets $150. 6pm-10pm.
Austin's Hex Dispensers take their leads from the Marked Men and the Lillingtons. Their latest album, Winchester Mystery House, is a tour de force of gritty pop punk that worms its way in your head for days. Vermont's King Tuff (a.k.a. Kyle Thomas) plays power pop with a 60s soul influence. This is a one-off show for both acts. It's also free with RSVP! (Email rsvp@emptybottle.com to do so.) The Music Box Theatre presents a special one-night screening sponsored by the Sundance Film Festival. The film being shown tonight is the 2010 film The Music Never Stopped, and a special guest from the film will be in attendance for a post-screening discussion. In commemoration of the last 50 years of bringing arts education to Chicago youth, Urban Gateways: Center for Arts Education invites you to celebrate the momentous anniversary with them at an interactive launch party tonight at the Chicago Urban Art Society's Gallery at 2229 S. Halsted St. and will feature a visual art and graffiti gallery exhibition by some of Chicago's most notable contemporary artists, the debut of their new interactive website, "I Am Urban Gateways", live student performances and an Urban Gateways art exhibition. Free and open to anyone 12 and up, but RSVP is required.
Corbett vs. Dempsey presents "Stupid Arguments," the first gallery exhibition of work by Peter Saul in Chicago in 25 years. Additionally, work by Brian Calvin will be displayed in the gallery's east wing. The reception will run from 5:00-9:00pm. The exhibition will be on view through March 12th, 2011.

The Illinois Humanities Council's new (Un)Common Good discussion series kicks off tonight from 6pm to 8pm at the Union League Club, 65 W. Jackson Blvd., with "Who Decides? Democracy and Divide," a conversation with experts who are thinking and writing about ideological segregation and polarized discussion, and their impact on democracy. Free, but reservations are required.
