The 14th annual Version Festival runs June 21-29 with the theme "the Placemakers." Tonight from 4 to 6pm, the Bridgeport Streetscaping Society leads a tour of recent guerrilla streetscaping and tactical urbanism projects, beginning at Bubbly Dynamics, 1048 W. 37th St. Tickets are $5.
The Northwest Chicago Film Society presents Corn's-A-Poppin', a 1955 independent film preserved by the Society, at the Music Box, 3733 N. Southport Ave., tonight at 5, 7 and 9pm. Tickets are $7.
The Downtown Sound free concert series at 6:30pm in the Pritzker Pavilion, 201 E. Randolph St. in Millennium Park, this week features Bob Mould of Hüsker Dü and Sugar, with Split Single opening. Seating begins at 5:30pm.
Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln Ave, will be hosting two incredibly experimental bands, Swans and Xiu Xiu. Since their resurgence in 2010, Swans released three fantastic albums. They will be supporting their latest album, To Be Kind, delivers more than two hours of their unique sound, an interesting combination of ambiance, industrial, and post rock. Xiu Xiu, fronted by Jamie Stewart, will be opening with their avant-garde art rock. Their latest album, Angel Guts: Red Classroom, shows Stewart at a new peak of darkness and subversion. Tickets are $25 for this 21+ show.
