Rocking Down to Austin: Chicago at the 2013 SXSW Music Festival
It's time once again to survey the SXSW Music Festival schedule for Chicago acts to catch if and when you're down in Austin, TX March 12-17. There's a good range of local artists heading down this year, representing everything from hip hop to folk to retro soul. We've also rounded up acts from neighboring states, to give an idea of the attention given to the broader region. Special Thanks to Eamon Daly for technical assistance putting together this list.

Just as the final announcement for SXSW-featured acts was a little late this year, so have been announcements about unofficial showcases. There's not much to share yet, but more details will roll out in the next couple weeks, and we'll continue to add them here. As always, feel free to post in the comments if you know of a showcase or an act who's heading down that isn't listed here.

The Hideout's annual SXSW Send Off Party is Saturday, March 9 from 2pm to 3am. For just $10, you'll see the following:

New York-based Impose Magazine hosts the Impose SXSW Party at the Empty Bottle on Saturday, March 9, featuring Cult of Youth, Lazy and Big Ups. Tickets are $10, but you can get in free if you buy one of the bands' albums at Permanent Records.
In Austin
Chicago startup eevzdrop teamed up with Austin's Eye in the Sky Collective to cosponsor The Future of Music Showcase at Shiner's Saloon, 422 Congress Ave., on March 15 and 16. As far as I can tell, hip hop duo Retrospect is the only Chicago act on the bill. Free admission each day with RSVP on Do512.
Gemini Club, Hey Champ and On An On are part of the lineup for Free Now!, an unofficial showcase by BeautifulBuzzz.com and DeliRadio that benefits the Beagle Freedom Project, March 13-16 at The Brew Exchange, 708 W. 6th St., from noon to 2am each day.
Reggie's Rock Club is hosting a free showcase at The Lodge, 411 E. 6th St., on Friday, March 15, from noon to 8pm. They're still nailing down the lineup, so stay tuned.
The Future Laureates are heading down for two unofficial showcases, on Thursday, March 14 at Amped, 300 E. 6th St., and Saturday, March 16 at The Chugging' Monkey, 219 E. 6th St. They're playing a sendoff show at Quenchers on March 2.
Todd Kessler & The New Folk are playing two shows on Friday, March 15, at Red Gorilla Music Festival at The Bourbon Girl, 212 E. 6th St., and SX Nights at the Upper Decks.
Bloodshot Records has both an official showcase and their annual unofficial one. The official showcase will be Wednesday, March 13 at the Continental Club, 1315 S. Congress, and will feature Waco Brothers, Eddie Spaghetti, Deadstring Brothers, Lydia Loveless, Murder By Death and Luke Winslow-King. Doors open at 7pm.
The 18th annual Bloodshot Records Party at Yard Dog Gallery, 1510 S. Congress, is Friday, March 15 from noon to 6pm. Lydia Loveless, Deadstring Brothers, Luke Winslow-King, Murder By Death, JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, Rosie Flores, Bobby Bare Jr., Eddie Spaghetti and the Waco Brothers play.
JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound will perform at Brooklyn Vegan's showcase on Wednesday, March 13 (locale TBA); the AMA showcase at Antone's, 213 W. 5th St., on Thursday, March 14; the Jambase showcase in the Tap Room at Six, 311 Colorado St., on Friday, March 15; and the KDHX party at Broken Spoke, 3201 S. Lamar, on Saturday, March 16.
The Waco Brothers perform at the Dogfish Head party at Gingerman, 301 Lavaca St., on Wednesday, March 13, and at the KDHX party at Broken Spoke, 3201 S. Lamar, on Saturday, March 16.
Jon Langford and Skull Orchard also play the the Dogfish Head party at Gingerman, 301 Lavaca St., on Wednesday, March 13, and perform an official showcase at Continental Club, 1315 S. Congress, on Friday, March 15.

This just came in last minute, but Chicago-folk rockers Matthew Morgan and the Lost Brigade will be playing an unofficial showcase at Haddington's on 6th Streeet in Austin, TX on Thursday, March 14th at noon (The Future Laureates will be playing there as well at 2pm)
