One Night Only: Off-Broadway Improv Returns to Chicago

Has the hustle and bustle of the holidays made you want to delay "decking the halls?" Take a respite from Rudolph? For a break from the traditional holiday experience of jingling bells, roasting chestnuts, and taking sleigh rides, One Night Only is a refreshing and entertaining alternative.
Created and produced by Second City's Michael Girts, One Night Only, comprised of "some of Chicago's most esteemed comedy and musical professionals," returns from Off-Broadway to the Windy City; this eight-night series, which mixes dancing, rhyming, and singing, kicks off tonight and runs through the remainder of the holiday season.
Born out of an on-the-spot, made up musical that was pitched last year to noted Broadway producers The Araca Group, the show is the ultimate musical improv experience, with veteran Chicago improvisers who, each night, take ideas and suggestions from the audience to create an exclusive, one-time, "one night only" performance. Directed by TJ Shanoff with musical direction by Mike Descoteaux (also Second City veterans), the show's ensemble cast includes Kate McGroarty, Matthew Van Colton, Nicole Hastings, Rachel Page, Kate Cohen, Andrew Knox, and Katie Dufresne.
See One Night Only at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave.; the show runs Tuesday, Dec. 17 through Saturday, Dec. 21, and resumes Thursday, Dec. 26 through Saturday, Dec. 28. All shows are at 8pm; tickets are $15 and are available online or by phone at 773-327-5252.
