Airbags

In the inaugural Gapers Block podcast, we cover a variety of topics including fish, Daleys past and present, Japanese rituals, Thanksgiving, the Wii, Crispin Glover and other miscellany. We also give you some ideas for activities this weekend.

The podcast is a work in progress — this one's fairly rough. Comments and suggestions are welcome below. Please be gentle.

Sorry about the tinny sound, btw. We'll hopefully have a better microphone by next week.

GB Dial, or just "The Dial."

dan / November 29, 2007 2:22 PM

Good work! Looking forward to more of them.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the "pinky removal" tradition is a strictly yakuza thing, not a Japanese or samurai tradition. John Kass's article is kinda funny, in a "meh" sort of way. You wonder though, if it had been the prime minister of Italy, would John Kass make Godfather or Sopranos references? "Hey Daley! Leave the cannolli!" Probably not, as it's insulting and stupid.

dan / November 29, 2007 2:24 PM

Dammit, I meant "Take the cannolli!'" It's been awhile since I've seen it.

Levois / November 29, 2007 2:48 PM

You might need some intro and exit music. And you guys need a cool show title. Perhaps Gaper's Block Yak!

Andrew / November 29, 2007 3:46 PM

Yeah, we'll definitely add some music. Thanks for the suggestion, Levois!

Is there an RSS feed for the podcast (so I can suck it in through iTunes)?

The regular "Airbags" feed doesn't have any mp3 enclosures (ok, I totally just nerded out. sorry!) :)

Andrew / November 29, 2007 4:28 PM

Mike, iTunes should pick it up soon. We have a listing in there now, from Dave Elfving's "Audible City" series, but we need to get it updated to this new thing. Search for Gapers Block in the podcast section of iTMS and stay tuned.

inaugural podcast?!?!

didn't you do a podcast with Liz Armstrong (chicago antisocial) a few years ago?

Dawson / November 29, 2007 9:38 PM

Nice work guys!

Andrew / November 29, 2007 10:39 PM

Holden, that wasn't a podcast, it was a semiregular audio feature in Detour called Audible City. We did call it a podcast, but it was an interview series (one of which featured Liz Armstrong), not representative of the site as a whole. The last of those was sometime in early '06.

DCE / November 30, 2007 2:03 PM

There was some thought about turning Audible City into a proper podcast, but it never really happened (though it was presented as such at Third Coast).

As the producer of Audible City (hey, that's me!) now lives in San Francisco, there won't be another Chicago edition anytime soon. But you never know . . .

Anyway, long live the GB Podcast!
