Get Intimate with Salon Splendor this Thursday
The success of last month's Salon Splendor has prompted Chicago's Curbside Splendor Publishing to reprise the event with another night of readings, music, and world-class tea, on Thursday, May 16, at 7:30pm. The show will take place at Madame Zuzu's 582 Roger Williams Ave. in Highland Park.
Curbside Splendor has been a partner in many reoccurring literary events such as the monthly Karaoke Idol at Beauty Bar and the seasonal Pop-up Book Fair held at the Empty Bottle.
According to Jacob Knabb, senior editor at Curbside Splendor and host of Salon Splendor, "a focused, monthly reading series has been lacking from our lives."
The Salon is all about making live readings for intimate. With just a few readers and some live music, the audience gets time to discuss what they've seen among themselves and with performers.
The Highland Park tea shop, owned by Chicago alternative rock icon Billy Corgan fell into Corgan's lap as a venue for the Salon. Knabb and Corgan struck up a conversation at a Valentine's Day event they both happened to attend.
"When he found out that I worked in publishing, he mentioned that ZuZu's would love to host literary events," says Knabb. "The rest is history."
As host of past reading/musical showcase So You Think You Have Nerves of Steel, Knabb knows how to curate a live event.
"I personally savor literary events with rules for writers and performers," says Knabb. "We wanted to host a salon that was themed and where the writers and band would pen all new material on that theme."
The theme this month, Passages, will be taken on by authors Christine Sneed, Jac Jemc, and Scott Garson. The night will end with live music by house band Good Evening.
The series is confirmed through October, on the third Thursday of each month. Remember, this is intimate, so space is limited and reservations are strongly recommended. RSVP at sarah@madamezuzus.com
