To be Demolished

5836 S. Peoria St.

Chicago Historic Resources Survey: Not included [?]
Year: 1908
Architect: Unlisted
Owner: Citiside Management
Permit Description: Wreck and remove a 2 story brick single family.
Status: Demolition permit issued 4/12/2012

Additional Details

The house on the right, 5836 S. Peoria, was listed for sale nearly a year and a half ago and was recently priced at $7,000 "as is" as a "great opportunity to own an affordable single family home in the Chicagoland area." Because the building was a Federal Housing Authority 203K eligible property, 3.5% -- or as little as $245 -- would have been needed to purchase the property. More about the house may be read in this Chicago Tribune article about the To be Demolished project.

The house on the left has been threatened by city demolition programs in the past but remains for now.

About the series

Over the course of 2012 David Schalliol produced a photographic portrait of 100 of the hundreds of buildings threatened with demolition in the city of Chicago. Nearly all of the buildings have since been demolished. Visit the background information section for more information about the project, including definitions and links to other building resources.

The series is supported by a generous grant from the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.
