Facets Night School: Viva Las Vegas

Facets Multimedia presents the second session of Facets Night School, midnight screenings of classic and cult movies with discussions about each film. Tonight's film is the Elvis and Ann-Margret classic Viva Las Vegas. Facets employee Susan Doll leads a post-screening discussion. Busy Beaver Buttons Grand Opening

Busy Beaver Buttons, Chicago's own button supplier, is having a party to celebrate the grand opening of their new space, located at 3279 W. Armitage. All day the button crew will be hosting different events (all free) with different booze and, of course, lots of buttons.
Open House (1-5pm) - Tour the new building, sip on champagne, and make your own buttons. A ribbon cutting with 35th Ward Alderman Rey Colon is at 1:30pm.
Button-o-matic Party (5-8pm) - Check out Busy Beaver's new 24 ct button series, enjoy some golden beer, and music by Devin Davis.

Bears Family Day @ Soldier Field

Can't wait for football season? Come down to Soldier Field today for Bears Family Day. The festivities begin outside the stadium at 10am with entertainment, radio stations, sponsor booths, and giveaways. The gates also open at 10 so people can head inside the stadium to watch exciting youth football demonstrations and scrimmages. The Bears start practice at noon, and fans can watch the team as they prepare for the upcoming season. The first 30,000 fans will receive scratch cards for a shot at winning the chance to go on the field and meet the players, and receiving a signed practice jersey. Assigned seats are $7.00 prior to the event, $10 at the door. Who knew watching football practice could be so fun?

Lincoln Park Arts and Music Festival

It's the weekend. It's summer. Of course there's a neighborhood festival going on somewhere. This weekend, head to Racine Ave.(between Fullerton and Webster) in Lincoln Park for live music on two stages, food and drinks from local area restaurants, arts and crafts tables, a bags tournament, and children's activities. Oak Park Library Annual Book Fair

The Friends of the Oak Park Public Library are holding their 39th Annual Book Fair. Come peruse 100,000 books, from childrens' literature to cooking to history to romance and more. Hardcovers are priced at $2 and paperbacks are $.50. The fair continues today, 9am-5pm, with no admission fee, at Oak Park River Forest High School, 201 N. Socille Ave. in Oak Park. Lollapalooza @ Grant Park

Chicago's own Lollapalooza rocks Grant Park again for a fifth year. Tonight's headliners are Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Tool. The music festival runs from 11am to 10pm. Three-day and single-day passes are available on Lollapalooza's website.

2nd Annual Experimental Garage Sale

Interested in circuit bending, electronic music and experimental sounds? (Or not saying "huh?" after that sentence?) Then you probably want to check out the 2nd Annual Experimental Garage Sale today at the Experimental Sound Studio, 5925 N. Ravenswood. The sale is one-stop shopping for sound artists, circuit benders, and anyone interested in making weird sounds. Lo-fi electronic kits and synths, handmade contact microphones, piles of Casio keyboards and Barbie Karaoke machines, "finished" products and hand-built sound devices will all be for sale from noon until 8pm. Free.
