World Kitchen Learning Series: Now You're Cooking

The "Now You're Cooking" class, part of the city's World Kitchen learning series, will get you cooking like the professionals. This is part of a four-class series that will end on October 22. Class runs 6-8pm at the Gallery 37 Center for Arts at 66 East Randolph, admission is $30 ($100 for all four), and registration is required.

Cabaret Oobleck @ The Chopin

Percussionist, improvisor and composer Michael Zerang plays with Jim Baker and Magnus & Schoen as part of Cabaret Oobleck, a showcase of the theater company's regulars, irregulars and friends. Hosted by BoyGirlBoyGirl's David Kodeski, the show starts at 7:30pm in the downstairs lounge of The Chopin Theater, 1543 W. Division. DJ Bird Peterson @ Sonotheque

Evanston Second Annual Harvest Celebration @ Now We're Cookin'

The Land Connection will hold a benefit for the Evanston Farmers Market tonight at Now We're Cookin', 1601 Payne Street, Unit C from 6:30-9pm. Food from a bevy of local restaurants (Uncommon Ground, the Stained Glass) and related businesses (Blue Marble Creamery, Nichols Farm) are on the bill. Tickets $80-100.

Salman Rushdie @ Harold Washington Library

Winner of the 2009 Chicago Public Library Foundation Carl Sandburg Literary Award, Salman Rushdie comes to the Harold Washington Library to read from and discuss his body of work. Dinosaur Jr. @ The Vic Theatre

The legendary Dinosaur Jr. graces the stage tonight at The Vic. While this group may be famous for their ground-breaking rock music in the 1980's, they show no sign of slowing down or getting nostalgic, having just released a new album, Farm, filled with brand new material.
