Square Roots Festival

The Square Roots Festival runs July 11-13 on Lincoln Avenue between Montrose and Wilson. There'll be music on two stages and more than 30 craft beers on tap. The festival is open from 5 to 10pm tonight. Suggested donation is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and kids; $20 for families.

Open Studios @ Fine Arts Building

The Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Ave., holds an open studio night from 5 to 9pm tonight, as part of the Chicago Cultural Mile Second Fridays event. Free.

2nd Fridays @ Chicago Arts District

The July edition of 2nd Fridays Gallery Night in Pilsen will feature work by multi-discipline artists in 30+ creative spaces in the Chicago Arts District (formerly known as PilsenEast). You'll find all manner of art and artists, as well as explore the gorgeous architecture and courtyards on Halsted Street between 16th and Cermak. Plan your stroll by picking up a map at the info center at 1821 S. Halsted St., or check out the event calendar. 6pm-10pm.

Irish Fest

The Irish American Heritage Center's Irish Fest runs July 11-13 at the Center, 4626 N. Knox Ave. Enjoy live music -- including tonight's headliners, the Tossers -- as well as traditional Irish dancers, an arts and craft show, food and drink, and more. The festival runs from 6pm to 1am today. Admission is $15. Also tonight is a special performance by Phil Coulter at 7pm; tickets are $35.

Contained and TextTextText Opening Receptions @ Woman Made Gallery

Woman Made Gallery, 685 N. Milwaukee Ave., is hosting two opening receptions tonight, starting at 6pm. The exhibitions are entitled, "texttexttext" and "Contained". Woman Made Gallery is free and open to the public.

Paul Virant @ Taste of Chicago

Perennial Virant and Vie's Paul Virant, aided by students of Washburn Culinary Institute, serves a multi-course meal tonight at 6:30pm the Taste of Chicago (Grant Park, 500 S. Columbus Dr.) as part of the Pure Leaf Celebrity du Jour Dining Series, which will take place onsite in an air-conditioned tent (whoo!). If you have to venture into the swarm of turkey legs that is the Taste of Chicago, this event is worth the $45 ticket.

70mm Film Festival @ Music Box

The Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., presents the return of their two-week 70mm Film Festival, featuring a host of classic movies in the 70mm format. Among the films scheduled to screen: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Doctor Dolittle, It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, and The Master. It all begins tonight with Lawrence of Arabia at 7pm tonight. The Comedy Exposition of 2014

The Comedy Exposition of 2014 runs this weekend, July 11-13, showcasing national and local stand-up comedic talent. Tonight's shows run from 7 to 2am in multiple sets at Schubas (3159 N. Southport Ave.), the Playground (3029 N. Halsted St.) and the Annoyance (851 W. Belmont Ave.) Tickets for most shows are $5, with featured sets running $20; festival passes are available. Ralph Stanley @ City Winery

Bluegrass legend Dr. Ralph Stanley and His Clinch Mountain Boys perform at City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph St., tonight at 7:30pm. Tickets are $35-45. Doors open at 6pm.

Sexcula @ Music Box
