Contest: Kopecky Family Band @ SPACE
There is sweetness and a touch of innocence in the Kopecky Family Band's music. But there's also enough of a wild streak in them to appease those who like their indie-rock infused with doses of rambunctious Americana. The Nashville band's on the road ahead of their self-released debut album, Kids Raising Kids (out 10/23). One of the album's strengths is how singers Kelsey Kopecky and Gabe Simon (so, yeah, they're not actually related) handle vocals, whether it's in their harmonies or when one drops off to let the other shine. They may still be kids, but they certainly know how to write songs that work for them. Their Disaster EP is proof enough that they were on the right track two years ago. Serious touring in the meantime has only bolstered their position and made them a better live band. Gapers Block is giving away a pair of tickets to Thursday's show at SPACE. Kopecky Family Band headlines SPACE on Thursday, the 18th. Jon Drake & the Shakes and Colorfeels open. The show starts at 7:30PM. It's $10 in advance, $12 at the door or $18 for a reserved table. SPACE is at 1245 Chicago Avenue in Evanston.
