« Chicago Bluegrass and Blues Festival Warms Up Your Chicago Winter | Pulling Strings: For classical music in Chicago, you got a guy - January 2014 » |
Event Wed Jan 08 2014
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da at the Chicago Public Library
Chances are, you're going a bit stir crazy right now in this lovely and seemingly never-ending wintry weather spell we've got going here -- and it's only January. The best way to cure those pesky winter doldrums is to step out of your routine and do something different. Thankfully, the Chicago Public Library is bringing the phenomenon of Beatlemania to your own backyard, with Beatles Karaoke open to one and all. The event, taking place on Friday, Jan. 24 at 12:15pm, marks The Beatles' 50th anniversary of their first trip to the United States.
Whether you were a Revolver fan, shifted towards Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, or are partial to Rubber Soul, join with other Beatles fans for a night that will surely be remembered by all. Curated in tandem with the Library's Music Information Center: Celebrating 100 Years of Music for the City (1914-2014) program, channel the energy of the Fab Four as you belt out the final chords of "Hey Jude," yell out the raucous chorus of "Yellow Submarine," or get a little psychedelic with "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds." A group of four wearing matching black suits would likely even earn you bonus points during this celebration.
To promote diversity among songs chosen, as repeats are strongly discouraged, and there will be advance registration on the Chicago Public Library website. Lyrics will be provided for your selection chosen out of a 60-song repertoire, with backing music provided as well, to ease any Beatlemania-incuded stage fright. The Harold Washington Library is located at 400 S. State St., and the event will be held in the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium on the lower level. For more information, contact staff at 312-747-4850.
