Andrew Bird Announces US Tour Dates

Bird.jpgAt his show at Pritzker in September, violin-playing-loverboy Andrew Bird told us that he had just finished recording a new album. Today he announced new dates for a US tour early next year, presumably in support of this new album, Noble Beast (out in January). One question though--how could he not play in hometown Chicago? And where the heck is Murray? (okay that was two questions...)

Tour dates after the jump.

Loney Dear will open all shows (except Carnegie Hall - Dosh opens)

28-Jan NEW YORK - CARNEGIE HALL
30-Jan BOSTON - THE ORPHEUM THEATRE
3-Feb WASHINGTON - CLUB 9:30
4-Feb ATLANTA - THE VARIETY PLAYHOUSE

I don't understand why people always complain about Andrew Bird or Wilco "not playing Chicago" on whatever tour they have scheduled. They LIVE HERE (or nearby in AB's case). We get treated to far more special performances than any other city (see the aforementioned FREE AB Pritzker show or the five night run at the Riv in Wilco's case). What more could you want?

That said, I saw AB at Pritzker and I think he is losing me...He seems like he is just rehashing things since Mysterious Production of Eggs came out and not really moving in a new direction. He was on record saying he didn't want to play with a full band again, yet he has basically assembled a full band aside from the fact none of them really play much. They are mostly there for background noise. I am also of the opinion Martin Dosh is pretty mediocre, especially when compared to the amazing Kevin O'Donnell who, sadly, doesn't like to tour and so stopped playing with Andrew shortly after Eggs was released.

I guess I'll see how the new record sounds before I totally move on.

Bet one or 2 will be added on that weekend after Omaha. In some musical circles giving props to your hometown by starting/ending tours there is key or playing big shows i.e. NYE. But in the Indie Rock world we guess that's hit or miss.
