LCD Soundsystem @ Metro 5/26/10

James Murphy may look like an average unassuming guy in his plain white undershirts, but in actuality he's way more awesome than you, with way cooler problems. "It's kind of hard," he said about playing their seventh show straight at LCD Soundsystem's special concert at Metro on Wednesday. The show was nothing short of the most awesome dance party you've ever been to. An enormous disco ball on stage right was lit suddenly from all angles midway through opening number "Us V Them," and the energy never waned from there.
Murphy and crew released their third (and supposedly) final album, This Is Happening, earlier this year, and it was met with rave reviews. A must-have for your summer play list, still I'm not sure it quite lives up to its predecessor, Sound of Silver. Maybe I just need to wait until it accompanies all my memorable summer events.
Murphy closed the performance with an intimate spotlight rendition of "New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down." An unexpected but fitting end to the high octane 90 minute sweaty set (although, I gotta admit, it would have been a bit more fitting if we were actually in New York). LCD Soundsystem is also headlining this summer's Pitchfork Music Festival, and if this was a preview of what we can expect there under the night's sky, we're in for a hell of a ride.

Huh, maybe we should have done a point/counterpoint review for this show, after all.
