Record Store Day 2013

RSDvector_2013.jpg

Nearly six years have passed since we started setting aside a certain Saturday in April and heading out to our favorite (or new favorite) local record stores to celebrate the brick-and-mortar music shopping experience. Whether you choose to line up at the crack o' dawn, or head out at a leisurely post-brunch hour, a visit to your local music purveyor can be easily accomplished this weekend with Saturday's return of Record Store Day. What follows are our best recognizance for what's planned, celebration-wise, at a record store near you, Chicago.

From Bloodshot:
"We'll have local post-punk soul heroes JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound laying down an acoustic set at Reckless Records in Lakeview (3126 N. Broadway) at 3pm. There will be a special limited edition 7" on hand for the event ("I Got High" b/w "River") that includes a download-able preview track from their highly anticipated new record "HOWL" hitting ears on 5/21.

Further north at Laurie's Planet of Sound in Lincoln Square (4639 N. Lincoln ), also at 3pm, New Orleans ' own Luke Winslow-King (the latest artist to join our stable) will be making North Lincoln Ave. sound more like Frenchman Street in New Orleans with his signature mix of delta-folk music, classical composition, ragtime, and rock & roll. Copies of his Bloodshot debut, "The Coming Tide" will be available to take the party home. There may be second lining...

All our local record stores will have copies of our special limited edition release from Justin Townes Earle, Yuma, made especially for Record Store Day 2013 Yuma is JTE's debut EP, self released by the man himself on CD back in 2008; this special limited edition 10" pressing is the only time it's ever been available on vinyl, and it includes a download card for the full EP, plus a selection of cuts from JTE's other Bloodshot releases."
