Danny's Reading Series

The Danny's reading series presents fiction by:

Michael Byers received his MFA from the University of Michigan and was a Stegner fellow at Stanford University. His novel Long for this World was published in 2003 by Houghton Mifflin.  His story collection, The Coast of Good Intentions, won the Sue Kaufman Prize for first fiction from the Academy of American Arts and Letters. Byers also won a Whiting Foundation Writer’s Award and was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Prize.  He lives in Pittsburgh.

Thisbe Nissen grew up in Manhattan. She's a graduate of The University of Iowa Writer's Workshop, where she was a James Michener Fellow. Thisbe's the author of a collection of short stories, Out of the Girl's Room and into the Night, and a novel, The Good People of New York.  She lives in Iowa City.

Following on the heels of "43 Plays For 43 Presidents" and "Game/Place/Show", Genevra Gallo curates "Inside My Mouth", a collage of original work combining the perspectives and personal histories of several women on the topics of loss, love, silence, lust and conversation.

Dave Rempis Quartet @ 3030

Join the Dave Rempis Quartet at 3030 W. Cortland tonight for part two of their record release party for their new live album "Out of Season" on 482 music. The 2-set show gets going at 9:30 p.m. and will feature Dave Rempis on sax, Jim Baker on piano/arp synthesizer, Jason Roebke on bass, and Tim Daisy on drums. Rempis, a veteran of local jazz superstars Triage and the Vandermark Five, brings his quartet's sound together on this new disc. The album was recorded in October 2003 at the 3030, so you can see this great jazz quartet in thier ideal element. You can buy the album at the show, or here. The 3030 is an event space in a converted Pentecostal church located at 3030 W. Cortland, BYOB.
