Chicago SummerDance
The ninth annual Chicago SummerDance festival of public dancing continues tonight in the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park (601 S. Michigan, between Harrison and Balbo). This evening's entertainment: Tommye Giacchino & Gregory Day, teaching the waltz; and the Ray Sassetti Orchestra, playing ballroom music. SummerDance features one hour of dance lessons, followed by two hours of live music and dancing. Tonight's show runs from 4:00 to 7:00, and SummerDance runs at the park Wednesday-Sunday nights (weather permitting) through August 28. See the SummerDance site for a complete schedule.
Fireworks!
Tonight's the night for the City of Chicago's annual Independence Eve Fireworks at the Taste of Chicago. The fireworks, choreographed to music performed by the Grant Park Orchestra under the direction of Christopher Bell, begin at 9:30 pm on the lakefront.
FitzGerald's American Music Festival
FitzGerald's, 6615 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Berwyn, throws its 24th annual American Music Festival this weekend, and today is the last day. Today's line-up includes Jeff and Vida, Switchback, the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas, Sleepy LaBeef, The Gourds, Marcia Ball, Del Rey, Eh La-Bas!, the Hackensaw Boys, King Wilkie, and The Subdudes. Doors open at 4:30pm. Tickets are $25 -- if you get there before 6pm you get $5 off admission. Check this PDF calendar for the full festival listings.
