4Art Opening: The Collection
4Art Inc., 1932 S. Halsted #100, is holding an opening reception for "The Collection." This latest exhibition features a collection of Chicago artists with works in everything from oil paintings to sculptures to digital art. Artists include Alexis Silk, Maureen Warren and Renae Lillie. Chicago SummerDance
The ninth annual Chicago SummerDance festival of public dancing continues tonight in the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park (601 S. Michigan, between Harrison and Balbo). This evening's entertainment: Lisa "La Boriqua" teaching salsa and cha cha, and Angel Melendez & The 911 Mambo Orchestra playing Big Band Mambo. SummerDance features one hour of dance lessons, followed by two hours of live music and dancing. Tonight's show runs from 6:00 to 9:30, and SummerDance runs at the park Wednesday-Sunday nights (weather permitting) through August 28. See the SummerDance site for a complete schedule.
Exotica: Luau By The Lake 2005
Duke Carter & Eddie Angel present Exotica: Luau By The Lake, a four-day celebration of exotica and Pacific Island culture. Tonight's event is a concert at the Hala Kahiki tiki bar in River Grove (2834 River Road; see the map) featuring King Kukulele from LA and the ukulele duo Petty Booka from Japan. The concert runs from 3:00 to 7:00, and there will be an after-concert party at FitzGerald's in River Grove (2720 River Road) starting at 7:30, featuring a performance by Southern Culture on the Skids.
