New Orleans benefit @ Neo-Futurarium

The Neo-Futurists present a benefit for the citizens of New Orleans tonight at 8:00 at the Neo-Futurarium (5153 N. Ashland, at Foster). The evening will feature works by ensemble members (including selected plays from the longest running show in Chicago theater history, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind) and performances by local musicians and spoken-word artists. Admission is $10, and all proceeds will benefit the New-Orleans-based charity Community Labor United.

Leonard Kniffel @ the Chicago Authors Room

As a part of the November Author Series at the Harold Washington Library Center, Leonard Kniffel, editor of American Libraries magazine, will discuss and sign his new book, A Polish Son in the Motherland: An American's Journey Home. In this colorful and lovingly written memoir, Kniffel travels back to Poland searching for a connection to the life his grandmother left behind when she came to America. What results is a fascinating look at life in contemporary Poland and a poignant glimpse into a family's past.
