The Hawk: Animate Objects, Bad News Jones, Know Boundries, Tabakin @ Double Door

It’s a hip-hop showcase tonight at 9:30pm for The Hawk Music Festival, which is celebrating Chicago’s music scene. Opening: The Willing Participant

Factory Theater presents "The Willing Participant," a new play about a Chicago police officer questioned for a death, in a romantic tangle with the deceased's sister and abducted by aliens. Sounds like The X-Files on crack, doesn't it? Which isn't a bad thing. Tickets to tonight's 8pm Special Gala Benefit are $40 and include food and drink at the post show reception. The Jungle Centennial

The Chicago Historical Society commemorates the hundreth anniversary of Upton Sinclair's The Jungle with a panel discussion featuring Ann Durkin Keating, coeditor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of Chicago; Patrick Readon, feature writer for the Tribune; and James Barrett and Christopher Phelps, editors of different editions of the book. Audition for Hairspray: The Musical: The Movie

The Life During Wartime dance party is getting an early start at 9pm at the Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia, as part of The Hawk Music Festival celebrating Chicago’s music scene. If you missed the terrific 3 Friends benefit at Metro last month, you'll get another chance to see three of the bands involved. "You Can't Tell Lawyers How to Do Their Job"

The National Lawyers Guild in Chicago presents "You Can't Tell Lawyers How to Do Their Job," a "speak-out" about the upcoming sentencing of attorney Lynne Stewart. The event features NYC attorney and talk-radio host Michael Smith and a 20-minute video on the case. 1-3pm at the DePaul University College of Law, in the Loop Campus, 25 E.
