The Dollar Store Reading Series returns to the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, tonight at 7pm. This month hosts Jonathan Messinger and Jeremy Sosenko present WNEP playwright Jen Ellison, fiction writer Scott Stealey and comedian Jared Logan, reading stories based on items from a dollar store. $1 suggested donation, 21 and over.
As part of the Chicago Public Library's Speakin' of the Blues lecture and performance series, dummer and harmonica player Willie "Big Eyes" Smith discusses the career of harp and harmonica legend Little Walker. Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art presents an exhibition of quilts made by Marie "Big Mama" Roseman, a woman who lived in Benton Harbor, Michigan and created many quilts with found objects: plastic flowers, lace, buttons, embroidered animals, figures and symbols. Chicago NOW's Lesbian Rights Team is hosting a Wine and Cheese Evening at Early to Bed. Meet the women of Chicago NOW's Lesbian Rights Team, shop at a sex-positive, feminist owned sex toy store and learn about all of the nifty toys that are on the market. Come for the free food, wine and music, and stay for the company and raffle prizes. Early to Bed is generously donating 10% of the sales from the evening!
