2nd Annual Reality of Hope Fundraiser

This marks the second year of the "Reality of Hope" fundraiser supporting Chances by Choice. Held in the Preston Bradley Hall of the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington, the event benefits the aforementioned nonprofit foundation that puts its efforts toward finding adoptive families for HIV-exposed children from all over the world. There will be complimentary cocktail and hors d'oeuvres catered by Blue Plate and a silent auction featuring spa packages, wine tastings, sailing lessons and more. Preview: The Prometheus Myth

The Anatomy Collective presents a reworking of the classic Aeschylus play, Prometheus Bound. Using puppets and live action, The Prometheus Myth chronicles the lives of Hermes, Zeus, Hercules and other famous characters. The play opens tomorrow and will run through May 28, but tonight you can get a special 8pm preview. $12 suggested donation, $10 students and seniors at 2147 S. Neo Solo @ Neo-Futurarium

The Neo-Futurists present Neo Solo, a series of solo performance pieces by ensemble members, alumni, and guest performers. This week's plays: "My Life in Jeopardy" by Scott Hermes; and "God Don't Like Ugly" by Caitlin Savage. This particular performance runs for two weeks only, to be replaced by another performance on May 25. Neo Solo runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM. Summer Crops and Weed Control @ Garfield Park Conservatory

If you’re lucky enough to have a yard or a deck, you may be thinking about growing your food, in which case this organic gardening class can help you decide on the best options for heat-tolerant vegetables. If you are already gardening, then you are probably facing weeds. This class also covers techniques for chemical-free weed control. Take Back the Night 2006, South Side

Help fight against violence and proclaim the night and our community a safe place for everyone. Take Back the Night is an outdoor festival that includes a march, a rally, and musical entertainment. It invites people to come together and stand in solidarity against sexual violence, community violence, and violence against women. Take Back the Night starts on Bartlett quads at the intersection of 57th Street and South University Ave. at 6pm. The rally opens with speakers and is followed by a march, a vigil, and musical performances. Representatives from Apna Ghar, KAN/WIN, Howard Brown Health Center, Rainbow House, Chicago NOW, and Rape Victim Advocates will attend. There's a bake sale and raffle, with proceeds to benefit Rainbow House, a south-side domestic violence shelter.

This is Not a Pipe @ Hamlin Park

Adler Danztheatre Project presents This is Not a Pipe, a dance performance inspired by the paintings of Rene Magritte and the writings of Freud.
