Opening: Ghost Play

Upstart contemporary dance company Chicago Dance Crash presents their newest work, Ghost Play, a "movement play" created by artistic director Christopher McCray depicting the downfall of a neo-Victorian society under the influence of jealousy, self-interest, and a drug called Paris Dahmer. Saturation Series: Youth, Innocence & Doubt

Tense Forms and South Union Arts holds Saturation Series on the third Friday of every month, showcasing new writing, film, music and thought. This month's series is "Youth, Innocence & Doubt" in celebration of the "joys and troubles of childhood." Jenny Walton-Wetzel will read a short story, Kate Raney will screen her cut paper animation and music will be provided by bands Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, This Song is a Mess but So Am I, This Story, and Arrah and the Ferns. Spitfire Comedy Power Hour

Come see the first full showcase of all female stand-up comedy group, Spitfire, at the Cornservatory, 4120 N. Lincoln. Bucktown/Wicker Park Branch Library Opening

New libraries! Yay! The Bucktown/Wicker Park Branch Library opens at 10:30am today with a flourish. Mayor Daley, the Board of Directors of the Chicago Public Library and the Commissioners of the Public Building Commission of Chicago will all be there for the dedication ceremony and reception. 1701 N. National Hip Hop Political Convention

This year's National Hip Hop Political Convention will be held at Northeastern's Jacob Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies, 700 E. Oakwood Blvd. Focusing on commerce, grassroots activism, personal and collective responsibility, community development and civic participation, among other things, the convention aims to educate and engage youth to help shape the future of our county. The convention runs through July 23, with various workshops and lectures scheduled throughout the days. A complete schedule of events can be obtained here. Raiders of the Lost Ark @ Music Box

Believe it or not, it's the 25th anniversary of the classic adventure film Raiders of the Lost Ark. Even more unbelievably, the film will be showing for the next 6 days at the Music Box Theatre in a new 35mm print. Throw me the tickets, I throw you the whip.
