Consumatron.com celebrates its 1st anniversary with a party at Subterranean this evening at 8:30 PM (doors open at 8:00). Scheduled to perform: author Charles Blackstone; poet and spoken word performer Dan Solomon; stand-up comedian Russell Williamson; human beat box Lord of the Yum Yum; and singer-songwriter Adam Fitz. There will also be a raffle to benefit 826 Chicago, as well as art provided by Peter Klockau. Admission is $5. Subterranean: 2011 W. North.
Come check out some edgy news looks at this Bucktown clothing boutique while sipping drinks, listening to music and viewing an after-hours fashion show. Akira (careful, there's music after the click) has clothes, shoes and accessories for both men and women, so there's something for everyone. There's a $10 donation to get in, but 20% of all post-show purchases go to High Jump, an academic program that helps local students with limited income prepare for high school. The House Theatre has scheduled a talkback session after tonight's performance of Hatfield & McCoy at the Viaduct Theater (3111 N. Western) . If you're interested in dicussing the House Theater's current production with the authors and performers, this is the time to see the show! Roscoe Village's Sacred Art is opening their doors to both children and adults for a pumpking painting workshop. Admission is $10 and includes hot apple cider, snacks, supplies, apple bobbing and, of course, tips of all kinds for making your pumpkins look their best. You must supply your own gourd, but you can purchase it today at Roscoe Blooms, three doors down. Pumpkins that have been painted by artists will be for sale with proceeds going to charity. 12-3pm. Beginning today, the Music Box Theatre presents a five-day screening of the films of Terry Gilliam. Among the films being shown: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen; Time Bandits; 12 Monkeys; Jabberwocky (being shown with the short film Storytime); and the director's cut of Brazil. After the Gilliam fest finishes on October 19, the director's recent film Tideland will premiere at the Music Box the following day.
