Nina Simone doc @ Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents the return engagement of the 1998 film Nina Simone: Love Sorceress, which documents a 1976 European concert by the late great singer. 2nd Annual Alex Chilton B-day Bash @ Empty Bottle

WLUW presents its second annual birthday bow to former Big Star frontman and cult hero Alex Chilton tonight at The Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western Ave, with a showcase featuring more than a dozen local indie bands. Alex, by the way, turns 56 years old. 8 pm. $8 adv / $10 dos. 21+

The Waco Brothers @ Schubas

Tonight's the second dose of Waco for you, as Bloodshot Records artists The Waco Brothers hit another night on the stage at Schubas. Led by Jon Langford, the frontman of the seminal British punk band the Mekons, The Waco Brothers are an alternative country outfit homegrown here in Chicago. See them tonight with The Selfish Gene, tickets are $12 advance ($14 door) and music starts at 9pm (21+).

All Night With Gurlesque Burlesque

Lord of the Rings trilogy @ Music Box

The Music Box Theatre concludes a four-day celebration of epic films today with a screening of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Gurlesque Burlesque @ Sidetrack & Crew

The Sissy Butch Brothers' Gurlesque Burlesque will be making appearances at two local bars tonight leading up to their January 13 show with Margaret Cho at the Vic. The girls will be at Sidetrack's comedy night from 9-11pm in the Glass Bar, selling Stoli specials and tickets to the show. They'll also be at Crew Bar + Grill's monthly "Women Wanna Play" ladies' night from 8pm-2am, where they'll have Stoli shots and $6 Cosmos, along with ticket and prize giveaways from the Burlesque girls and Tulip Toy Gallery and music video requests played by VJ (and GB staffer) Kris V.
