Andy Friedman @ The Hideout

Andy Friedman may be best known for his cartoons and magazine covers (New Yorker, Tribune Magazine) but increasingly he's been taking his music much more seriousely. Recently he's abandoned running video along with his alt-country influenced live sets, and he's said to be focusing more on the delivery of the songs. If they're anything like the songs on his new record then this will be a show to check out. Expect to hear plenty of twang but lyrically this is more akin to the beat poets or the song-poems of Tom Waits than the song fragments of Wilco or Sun volt. Opening for Andy are the NYC bands The Defriblators and Two man Gentleman Band. Tickets are $8 for this 9:30 show at The Hideout.

Workshops and discussions are spread throughout the weekend, so be sure to check out the schedule to find exactly what you want to see.
