Pizza Making Demonstration @ Fox & Obel

Jonathan Goldsmith of Spacca Napoli will demonstrate pizza-making the Neopolitan way as Chicago Magazine's Jeff Ruby discusses his new book, Everybody Loves Pizza, which he wrote with the dining editor of the magazine, Penny Pollack. The event runs from 6:30 - 8 pm and costs $45, which includes a free autographed copy of the book. See the Fox & Obel events page for more information.

Michael Dirda @ Alliance Francaise

Well known for his ruminations on literature, Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Dirda comes to Allaince Francaise de Chicago to discuss his recent work on Isaac Babel. Babel was born in Odessa in 1894 and was a journalist in the 1920 Polish-Soviet War. He also published two plays and a collection of stories, but came under scruntiny when Stalin came to power and was shot to death four years later in a Soviet prison. 6:30pm at 54 W. Chicago Ave. Tickets are $8 general admission, $6 for students under 25 with valid ID. Email mail[at]nextbook[dot]org for more information.

Idealist.org Job Fair

Springtime is a great time to clean out your closets, sweep up the cobwebs, and kick your stinkin' day job to the curb for a new gig. Visit the Idealist.org Job Fair, where a bevy of local non-profit organizations and career counselors will be at your disposal (click here for this year's attendees). The Fair runs from noon to 4:00 p.m. at DePaul University's Career Center at their Lincoln Park campus's Student Center.

Shaky Hands Play Shaky Indie Rock @ The Note

The Shaky Hands are young, they're still at the point in their musical career where one night they play a decent size club and the next they'll play someone's basement house party. They play that kind of spastic indie rock the kids love so. For some reason I love it too. Rumor has it the live show is a can't miss. Tonight at The Note at 8pm.

Minus the Bear @ Beat Kitchen

Sweet melodies, ridiculous song titles, and jerk rhythms have been the hallmark of Minus the Bear's career thus far - tonight's show at Beat Kitchen will no doubt involve all three. A recent remix record of 2005's Menos El Oso has heated up the charts on eMusic, and this rising fame, combined with touring partners Chin Up Chin Up and The Honorary Title, means this is one shindig you don't want to miss. While the late show with Chin Up Chin Up is already sold out, an early show at 6 PM with Minus and Honorary Title still has tix available for $15. Beat Kitchen #:773-281-4444.
