Animal Collective @ Metro

Tonight avant-folk artisans Animal Collective bring their challenging brand of dream-pop to the Metro's stage at the behest of 88.7 WLUW. Notorious for playing only new songs on tour, there's no telling what bizarre and compelling harmonies and rhythms will emerge, though one can hope they'll break out a few from recent classics Sung Tongs or Feels. Complex acoustic composer Sir Richard Bishop opens. Show is at 6:30 and tickets are $25. Metro's #: 773-549-0203.

Powell's North Reading Series

Lusine @ Sonotheque

With his early releases on the Hymen and Isophlux labels, the Seattle-based electronica artist Lusine (a.k.a. Jeff McIlwain) proved that he could run the gamut of electronic music from tech-house to moody IDM to ambient. As well as possessing a strong ear for texture and nuance, he also knows how to give whatever stylistic swerve he engages some floor-friendly rhythmic backbone to counterpoint the more abstract elements. Within the past few years, he's put out two albums and a number of EPs for the Ghostly label, and is currently playing a few dates in support of his latest album Podgelism. Stepping up to share the DJ duties are Philip Sherburne, and Sonotheque residents Kate Simko and Sassmouth. 1444 W. Chicago. 9pm - 2am. $10 cover.

Illinois St. Tickets are $100, available online or by calling 1-800-679-0397.
