Robert Henke has been the sole consistent member of Monolake since the German electronic music duo formed some 12-plus years ago. Since Monolake's original affiliation with influential Basic Channel and Chain Reaction labels in mid-90s Berlin, their trademark sound has featured elements of dubby bass and reverb, as well as subtle electro nuances tinge the sweeping ambient washes and broken-beat glide. As well as manning the decks and laptop for DJ sets, Henke has also been working as a sound artist in recent years, doing performances and creating sonic/multimedia installations that he says explore "sound, rhythm and structure, [and are] about the interaction between a sonic event and the space in which it happens." For Monolake's appearance at the Empty Bottle this evening, it's likely that he'll mixing from both avenues of his work. 1035 N. Western. Show starts at 10pm, and tickets are $10.
