The Music Box Theatre hosts a sing-along screening of the "Once More, With Feeling" episode of the much-missed TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The screening happens tonight at midnight. Learn to make art the right way -- under the influence -- in the Hyde Park Art Center's Cocktails & Clay event series. The Center is kept open late so visitors can learn handbuilding, coils or just play with the clay. If you're feeling more social than creative, there will also be drinks, DJs, dancing and tours of the Center's latest exhibitions. 8pm-12am at 5020 S. Come out to the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, 800 S. Halsted Residents' Dining Hall (south building) at 7pm for a FREE book release party for The Spoken Word Revolution Redux. The event will feature readings from Editor Mark Eleveld; Michael Warr; Kevin Coval; Idris Goodwin; Christina Santana;17-year old Nate Marshall, a junior at Whitney Young HS; and upper 60s year-old poet Jack McCarthy from Boston.
The Spoken Word Revolution: Redux includes: Singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley, Slam Poetry founder Marc Smith, Four-time national poetry slam champion Patricia Smith, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, Gil Scott-Heron, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, and Many more great artists.
The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight there are three movies being screened in different parks: the Will Ferrell movie Kicking and Screaming is showing in Wilson Park (4630 N. Milwaukee); Mission Impossible III is screening at Abbott Park (45 E. 95th Street); and Open Season will be at Sheridan Park (910 S. Aberdeen St.). Join DJs Supreme Court and Joe Bryl at Sontotheque as they explore the barrio groove of the late '60s and early '70s, cueing up the platters and laying in the groove of rare Latin Soul records and dusties. They'll be showcasing artists ranging from Ray Barretto, Pete Rodriguez, Joe Cuba, The Lebron Brothers, Joe Bataan and many, many others who shaped the Nuyorica sound of days gone by. 1444 W. The show will feature Honeyboy himself, along with Billy Branch, Steve Avery, Rick Sherry, Char Baby, Rob Stone & The C-Notes with special guest Larry Taylor and more.
