New Hyde Park Music Series @ Experimental Station

Come by Experimental Station, 6100 S. Blackstone for a night of live music from several NY touring bands. Doors open at 7:30pm, music starts at 8:30pm, there is a $5 suggested donation, vegan food will be for sale. Performers include Rejouissance (NYC), Clocks Ticking Backward (NYC), Red Tag Rummage Sale (Buffalo), and Annie Saunders
(Chicago, of This Is My Fist).


Newberry Library Book Fair

This weekend marks the Newberry Library's 23rd Annual Book Fair, featuring more than 100,000 donated books sorted into 60 categories. Many of the books are priced under $2, so come with a backpack, suitcase or extra pair of arms if you're a bona fide bibliophile. Also, come early because it's slim pickin's by the end of the day. This book fair is free and open to the public at 60 W. Walton. Thursday 12pm-8pm, Friday 12pm-8pm, Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday 10am-6pm. Call 312-255-3510 for more information.

The Elephant Man @ Gene Siskel Film Center

The Gene Siskel Film Center presents a month-long festival of the films of David Lynch. Today's film is Lynch's first mainstream film, 1980's The Elephant Man. The film shows today at 8:30 PM, and will also be screened on Sunday; see the Film Center's Website for a complete schedule. Movies in the Park

The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight's screenings: Are We There Yet? (PG) at Smith (Wendell) Playlot Park (9912 S. Princeton Ave.); Shrek 2 (PG) at Veterans' Memorial Park (2820 E. 98th St.); E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (PG) at Chase Park (4701 N. Ashland Ave.); The Ant Bully (PG) at Douglas Park Cultural & Community Center (1401 S. Sacramento Ave.); and Borinqueneer (part of the Puerto Rican Film Series) at Humboldt Park (1400 N.
