Newberry Library Book Fair

This weekend marks the Newberry Library's 23rd Annual Book Fair, featuring more than 100,000 donated books sorted into 60 categories. Many of the books are priced under $2, so come with a backpack, suitcase or extra pair of arms if you're a bona fide bibliophile. Also, come early because it's slim pickin's by the end of the day. This book fair is free and open to the public at 60 W. Walton. Thursday 12pm-8pm, Friday 12pm-8pm, Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday 10am-6pm. Call 312-255-3510 for more information.

BlogHer Convention

BlogHer, an online community for women, is holding the last day of their three-day convention at Navy Pier today. Appearances by Elizabeth Edwards, Amy Sedaris and Esther Dyson are scheduled among the bevy of workshops and lectures about different perspectives on the blogging craft. The Elephant Man @ Gene Siskel Film Center

Top Chef Auditions

Here is you chance to show off your braising skills and uncontrollable temper! Auditions for the Bravo TV show Top Chef will be held today from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Rock Bottom Brewery (located at State and Grand). Click here for details. Also, Top Chef will be filming in Chicago this fall, so you would have a home field advantage.

Wicker Park Fest

Wicker Park is hosting what may be the best neighborhood festival in town today from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The usual vendors and various foods-on-a-stick will be there, but the real action is the concert roster, featuring the likes of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, JJ Grey and MOFRO, Pit er Pat, and High on Fire.
The action takes place on Damen Avenue, between Schiller and North Avenue, and costs a measly $5 per day.

The Taste of Lincoln Avenue

Day two of The Taste of Lincoln Avenue, the event includes food and craft vendors, five entertainment stages, a Kids' Carnival Area and more. The festival benefits the Wrightwood Neighbors Association with proceeds from the gates going to local charities, schools, parks, and neighborhood improvements. 2400 N.
