Movies in the Park: The Pursuit of Happyness

The Chicago Park District presents Movies in the Park, a summer-long screening of classic and contemporary films in Chicago parks. Tonight's screenings: The Pursuit of Happyness (PG-13) at Garfield Park Conservatory (300 N. Central Park Avenue). The screening starts tonight at dusk, and is free and open to the public. I Sing America @ Millennium Park

The Detainees Speak @ Sonotheque

The Human Rights Watch Chicago Network presents The Detainees Speak, a series of readings and performances giving voice to Guantanamo Bay detainees, at Sonotheque, 1444 W. Chicago Ave., tonight at 6:30pm. Riz Ahmed, Alana Arenas (newest member of the Steppenwolf Ensemble), David Kelly (Capital D of All Natural) and others will read and perform poems written by Guantanamo Bay detainees as collected in Marc Falkoff's Poems From Guantanamo: The Detainees Speak. Riz Ahmed will close the program with a featured performance. The event also celebrates the launch of the Human Rights Watch Chicago Network, the Human Rights Watch Chicago Committee's new young professionals group. $10 at the door, 21 and over. Rock for Kids Music Mixer @ Smartbar (rescheduled event)

Rescheduled from last month, come together along with Chicago's music community tonight for the 5th Annual Rock for Kids Music Mixer at Smartbar. Tonight, you can mingle (or mix, if you will) with members of Chicago's music scene, and bid on dozens of specially made, one-of-a-kind mix CDs from music staffs like your very own Gapers Block: Transmission, Time Out: Chicago, Pitchfork Media and more. There will also be mixes put together by members of Chicago bands such as Catfish Haven, Chin Up Chin Up, Office, DJ Matt ROAN and local celebrities like Hot Doug himself (aka Doug Sohn). A full list of participants is here. The fun gets going from 6pm-9pm tonight at Smartbar (located beside the Metro) at 3730 N. Clark St. There's a $5 suggested donation.

Farmers Market @ Daley Plaza

Columbia Collective Artwalk

Columbia College is opening all its galleries tonight from 5pm to 8pm for an artwalk.
