Slow Food Chicago will be hosting a holiday potluck at the French Pastry School (226 West Jackson) tonight at 6pm. Bring a dish that will serve six people (beer and wine provided), chow on other delights and tour the school. Cost is $10 for Slow Food Chicago members, $20 for everyone else. Hirsute and perpetually red-faced, the Philadelphia ensemble Man Man bring their off-kilter, neo-tribalist, Beefheartian ballyhoo to the AV-aerie this evening. Possibly, you can expect some new material from their upcoming (and third) LP that's due out sometime this Spring. Bronze opens. 2000 W. Fulton. All ages. 9pm, tickets are $12.
Into comedy? Charity? Insomnia? How about all three? Starting at 7:00 PM, The Second City crew will take to the stage for a solid 24 hours for its sixth annual holiday benefit, "The Second City That Never Sleeps: Letters To Santa". In addition to their (un)usual antics, improvers will be supported by the likes of Sally Timms & Jon Langford, Jeff Tweedy, Will Oldham (Bonnie Price Billy), Robbie Fulks, Steve Albini, and Kim and Kelley Deal. $10. Proceeds will be used to buy holiday gifts for needy children.

The Midwest Independent Film Festival hosts an advance screening of Grace is Gone, starring John Cusack as a father coming to terms with the death of his soldier wife in the Iraq war.
