Open Rehearsal: Carousel @ Court Theatre Rehearsal Hall

Experience the adaptation process of a theatrical work from the inside: watch the first rehearsal for Court Theatre’s upcoming production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel. During the rehearsal, director Charles Newell presents his vision and the cast explores the material for the first time.

Poison The Well @ Logan Square Auditorium

A really good hardcore scene show, despite the fact that it starts at 6 and is 21+. Slam dance your heart out because your chances to in Chicago are stretching thin. Poison the Well has been touring steadily in support of their 2007 release, Versions, despite a little member shuffle. Participants in this aptly named cooking class will celebrate Mardi Gras in the kitchen, at Wooden Spoon, 5047 N. Clark. 1st Tuesday Discussion Series @ LUMA

Bring a brown bag lunch to the Loyola University Museum of Art and join the 1st Tuesday Discussion Series on current international issues. This month John Rogers, President of the Midwest US-China Association and a professor with the University of Chicago/Peking University International MBA program, will lead an important discussion on how the US will manage its increasingly complex relationship with China. 820 N. Liars @ Metro

In the game of hyphenated musical descriptives, Liars have earned their share (art-, ambient, noise-, etc.), yet they've never stood still long enough for any of them to fully stick. One's thing's for certain, with each new album, they've offered fans a compelling (and frequently challenging) listening experience, and keep folks guessing as to what direction their evolution as a band might take next. Live, they're reputed to be unparalleled in intensity and energy. The up-and-comer lo-fi psychedic pop duo No Age are scheduled to open for tonight's show. Strong Women Poetry Reading @ Women and Children First

Featuring Annalise Raziq, Kamaran-Alexis Madison, and Lisa Wagner-Carollo. Developed through an outreach program with women in prison, Still Point Theater Collective’s production, Strong Women, is a performance featuring poetry written by women incarcerated in Cook County Jail. This inspiring piece explores, in the women’s own voices, the shock of arrival, the experience of incarceration and abuse, seeking your spirit in the midst of adversity, separation from children, and the quest to grow as a person and eventually release long-held fears. Jonathan Messinger @ The Parlor

Messinger is, among other things, the author of the short story collection, Hiding Out, books editor of Time Out Chicago and founder and co-host of The Dollar Store Show, a literary and comedy series featuring performances inspired by junk purchased from a dollar store.
