Chef Stéphane Postoyan will demonstrate how to prepare romantic hors-d’œuvres such as tuna rillette, black olive tapenade, and scallops, all to be paired with French wine! The event begins at 6:15 pm and costs $35 for

Catch The Winediva from 4pm to 5pm on WGN radio (720 am) today as she chats with Steve Cochran about wines designed for lovin'. Or - ask wine questions in person at the Chicago Auto Show's WGN booth at the Chevy display. Just spare her the obvious drinking and driving comments...
The Neo-Futurists' latest show, CONTRAPTION by Bilal Dardai, examines the intersection between innovation and insanity and asks, "If necessity is the mother of invention, is madness the wayward father?" Dardai says, "Contraption is what I imagine it would look like if Groucho, Chico, and Harpo took over Edison's Workshop and used the gadgets within the workshop to drive Zeppo completely out of his mind." Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm. Thursdays are pay-what-you-can, otherwise tickets are $10 for students, $15 regular. 5153 N Ashland Ave, Foster & Ashland, 773-275-5255.
If you're tired of the same bland Valentine's standards (chocolate, fluffy gifts, diamonds, pfft) and are experiencing a serious taco craving, Zapatista Cantina may be the right place to celebrate this year. Their $55 three course dinner celebrating the "Day of Love and Friendship" (aw, singles can come too! Thanks, Emiliano!) includes four courses of drinks alone -- champagne, wine, margaritas and sangria. Plus a complimentary flower for each couple. Festivities start at 5pm and reservations are highly recommended. Viva la revolucion y l'amor! Zapatista, 1307 S. Wabash, 312.435.1307 or online for more details.
Nothing says love like an unrealistically long car. Or something like that. Chaise Lounge is offering a decadent slew of options in addition to the standard Valentine's Dinner for two, which starts at $150. Another $50 will get you roses to go along with dinner, and if you shell out between $400 and $600 (depending on where you live), you and your date will get limo service to and from the restaurant. If you missed out on the limo ride at prom or the prospect of watching a stretch Humvee negotiate North Avenue, this might just be your chance. Chaise Lounge, 1840 W. North Avenue, 773.342.1840, 4pm to 2am.
Does the lack of a certain significant someone drive you to drink on the year's most commercial, er, romantic holiday? Well at least you don't have to do it alone. (In the dark. With your cat. Sigh.) Bin36 is offering a special wine tasting in its loft space for the single, bitter or otherwise Valentined out among us, where $36 covers wine, cheese and other snacks. Be forwarned, their un-ironic Valentine's Dinner will be going on just downstairs -- so try to keep your bitterness to yourself on the way out... Tickets available online, and they haven't sold out yet. Bin36, 339 N. Dearborn, 6 to 9pm.
Skip the chocolate binge and head over to the Abbey Pub for the third annual FlosstraPROMus, a benefit prom-esqe party for CHIRP (Chicago Independent Radio Project). The venerable Flosstradamus will headline the event, with Murderbot and DJ C beginning at 10pm. Formalwear encouraged but not required, event is 18+, admission $7.
