The Importance of Being Earnest @ Newberry Library, Wilmette Public Library

Presented by the Shakespeare Project of Chicago. Victorian England has never been so funny. Oscar Wilde is at his comedic best as Jack (David Skidmore) and Algernon's (Sean Cooper) attempts to add some sizzle to their respective love lives go horribly awry. Founding Member Peter Garino, who staged My Name is Will and Wilde's A Woman of No Importance for the company, directs this memorable romp of wit and repartee. This all-Equity cast also includes Shakespeare Project favorites: Melissa Carlson, Will Clinger, Corliss Preston, Gail Rastorfer, Fredric Stone and Barbara Zahora. Free. 10 a.m. at 60 West Walton St., and 2 p.m. at Wilmette Public Library, corner of Park and Wilmette Avenues.

Times New Viking @ Metro

Times New Viking, a catchy and noisy outfit from the subversion capital of the Midwest, Columbus, OH, open for Super Furry Animals at the Metro. They're playing in support of Rip It Off, their very first offering from Matador, and the show should be worth the price of admission. This band is loud as hell and indie fans across the blogosphere are defiantly divided between anger and adoration. And really, who doesn't love a good blog-gument?
