Autechre @ The Abbey

Electronica trailblazers Autechre have been laying low for a few years, but this evening they'll be playing The Abbey tonight. They're currently touring the U.S. to support their first album in three years. Massonix and DJ Rob Hall opens for the evening. 3420 W. Grace (at Elston). Tickets are $20 in advance and at the door. The Seldoms @ Ruth Page Center for the Arts

The Seldoms present Monument, a dance piece about individual acts of consumption that lead to the "accidental social sculpture" of the landfill. Each performance will be followed by a discussion led by representatives of groups that address human consumption and waste. For more info, see the GB interview. Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane @ MCA

Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane, one of America's major dance companies, presents Chapel/Chapter. This retelling of three stories--two high-visibility news stories and one confession from a company member--touch on humanity, morality, violence, and the "mediatization" of our world. The multi-media dance performance includes live music, video, and the spoken word.

Pick-Up Hockey Games @ Johnny's Icehouse

With the Blackhawk season over, hockey heads jonesing for an ice fix can head over to Johnny's Icehouse for "Rat Hockey" pick-up games at the venue, 1350 W. Madison Street, today and tonight. Check the website for times and fees. Pick-up games are also held every other day but Saturday and Sunday.

Caribou @ Empty Bottle

Still riding high on the warm reception of the 2007 album Andorra, the showgaze-y electronic Canadian ensemble currently known as Caribou (née Manitoba) plays the Bottle this evening. Opening on the bill the Bristol, U.K. experimental noise-rock duo Fuck Buttons, who have been collecting their fair share of kudos with the very recent release of their own debut recording. Circle in the Square @ Cheney Mansion

Artists presenting work include Christopher Ellis and Dawn Marie Galtieri of Voice of the City, Winifred Haun, artistic director of Winifred Haun & Dancers, and independent aerialist Jill Heyser. Independent choreographer Sarita Smith Childs, Paul Abrahamson, artistic director of Chicago Ballet and artists from The Space Movement Project also present work.
