Gapers Block Book Club Meeting

This month's meeting of the Gapers Block Book Club takes place tonight at The Book Cellar at 4736-8 N. Lincoln Ave., where we will be discussing The Grass Dancer by Susan Power. The meeting begins at 7:30pm, and new members are always welcome! Hope to see you there. Visit the official book club blog for more information.

The Lemon Tree @ Spertus Institute

The Third Coast Audio Festival Listening Room and the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies will present a 40-minute audio screening of The Lemon Tree, a radio documentary that addresses the Arab-Israeli conflict through the story of one friendship. In 1948, six-year-old Bashir's family leaves their home in old Palestine to live as refugees in Ramallah, and six-year-old Dalia's family move into the same house after surviving the Holocaust. Twenty years later, Bashir comes to visit his old home. The screening will be followed by an audience Q&A with producer Sandy Tolan, mediated by Chicago Public Radio's Gwen Macsai.
May 19, 6:30 (doors open at 6). $10 ($8 for CPR members, Spertus members, and students). Feinberg Theater, Spertus Institute, 610 S. Michigan Ave. Purchase tickets at the door or here. For more info: 312-948-4682.
