With Now or Heaven, The Broken West have captured a pathos that at once sparkles and is simultaneously depraved, altogether L.A. While many bands' second albums end up being about the road, Now or Heaven originates from home, the longing to get there and all that comes from being there. The perspective generated from the time spent on the road and the distance traveled led to a new, unnamable development.
Ex-Gogol Bordello member, Ori Kaplan, gives us this Brooklyn reggae hip-hop group, Balkan Beat Box , that adds brass horns for an eerie twist. 8pm at the Logan Square Auditorium, All ages, $18 in advance/ $20 at the door.
The 1st Chicago International Poster Biennial will be open to the public starting 9/15 in Daley Bicentennial Plaza in Grant Park. Returning poster art to its natural environs (outdoors), this will be a unique opportunity to view the work of the international group of finalists for this exciting competition. Bicentennial Plaza is located just east of Columbus Drive, across the Gehry-designed bridge. The exhibit runs thru 10/15 during normal park hours. FREE!
