Mark Seaman of Marked for Dessert will lecture on French pastry today at 10am at Kendall College. Event is sponsored by the Culinary Historians of Chicago. If you're even more interested in pastry, Seaman will be hosting a second event at his store on October 16 to wax poetic on pastry and talk about the pastry tour of France that he will be leading next spring (and you can go, too!).
The Chrome Czars Motor Club presents the seventh annual Hunnert Car Pileup "The Midwest's Greasiest Hot Rod Show," today at the historic Grundy County Speedway and fairgrounds in Morris. Featuring some of the Midwest's best examples of traditional style hot rods, this is the show for the truly hardcore enthusiast. Fast cars, fast women and fast music (full band lineup here) Admission for spectators is $5. Gates open at 9am.

The School of the Art Institute Alumni Society holds its annual BareWalls fundraiser tonight in the new Sullivan Galleries at the Historic Sullivan Center (aka, the Carson Pirie Scott Building), 33 S. State Street, 7th Floor, tonight from 6pm to 9pm. Come see dozens of SAIC alums paint live at the event, bid on artwork in a silent auction, and meet guest artist Robert Lostutter (class of '63). Tickets are $100; VIP tickets are $250, and include a pre-event tour of the new galleries and early entry to the event. Proceeds benefit the Alumni Scholarship fund.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago presents its Fall Program: Fold by Toru Shimazaki (world premiere), Minus 16 by Ohad Naharin (audience -- and this writer's -- favorite), and Extremely Close by Alejandro Cerrudo. -Each band does one song per round, no breaks, back to back to back etc., until the show is completed
-There is no headliner or opener, no front row or back of the room
The 60+ people driving around by only veggie powered vehicles in a community on wheels. Curated by Dan Deacon, the tour includes bands from Floristree, Wham City, Tarantula Hill, The Bank, Comfort Dome and other Baltimore music homes

Oh No! Doom, 2955 W. Lyndale, celebrates the opening of "We Need Each Other," an "epic artist collaboration" composed of 80 painted panels by some two dozen artists.
