The Andersonville Development Corporation is sponsoring their Third Annual Dessert Crawl on Sunday, October 12, starting at 1 PM. Choose from either (or both, if you've got a massive sweet tooth) the Swedish Stroll or the Rainbow Route, along which you'll enjoy twelve desserts from different establishments in the neighborhood. One route costs $25, both is $40, and you can add an optional wine tasting at In Fine Spirits for another $20.
The Old Town School of Folk Music and the Third Coast Festival present an evening of BBC "radio ballads", a combination of audio interviews, field recordings and musical accompaniment that were recorded 50 years ago. Presenting the ballads will be Sara Parker, whose father was one of the original producers of the ballads. The event kicks off tonight at 7:00 PM at the Old Town School's concert hall at 4544 N. Lincoln Avenue. Tickets are $12, $11 for OTS members, and $10 for seniors and children. More information available at the OTS Website.
The Raven Theatre begins its 26th season with Stephen Adly Guirgis' Jesus Hopped the A Train, a drama set in prison and focusing on themes of faith and redemption. The play opens tonight at 7:00, and there will be a post-show reception. The show runs Thursday through Saturdays at 8:00 PM through December 6. It's that time again! Columbus Day weekend means heading out into the wilds of Utica, IL and sampling some fall foliage, handicrafts, and some homemade burgoo (just like mom used to make!). Utica, and the Annual Burgoo Festival are located just down the road from the popular Starved Rock State Park, you can make a day of enjoying some simple pleasures just a couple hours west of Chicago.
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago presents its Fall Program: Fold by Toru Shimazaki (world premiere), Minus 16 by Ohad Naharin (audience -- and this writer's -- favorite), and Extremely Close by Alejandro Cerrudo. You can't go wrong with this show. This is the one to bring your friend to -- you know, that friend who swears she hates to watch dance and needs to be pleasantly surprised! The final event after a monster attack on multiple venues Riot Fest 2008 culminating show at The Congress Theater, 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave., features so many awesome punk bands it has to start at noon! Tickets are $25. All ages.
