Grails, Lichens, Locrian @ Empty Bottle

Grails, a Portland-based instrumental rock act with ancient ritualistic touches, grace the Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western) with their ankh-rock tonight at 9:30. Locally-based Kranky Records act Lichens plays second, and black metal/drone duo Locrian open. $8.

Powder: Writing by Women in the Ranks @ Women & Children First

Elaine Little Tuman, Dhana-Marie Branton and Sharon Allen come to Women & Children First to discuss their book Powder: Writing by Women in the Ranks, From Vietnam to Iraq. The 40 poems and essays in the book have been written by women who have served in military conflicts such as Somalia, Vietnam and Desert Shield and cover everything from heat exhaustion to interrogating suspected terrorists to attempted rape.
