Teaching a Culture of Peace and Justice @ Chicago Cultural Center

This panel, particularly relevant in the hopeful post-election climate, will examine the roots, nature and dimension of the challenges faced in pursuit of a peaceable and just world. The Chicago Cultural Center and Columbia College present a discussion challenging our understanding of non-violence and social justice, and considering whether ethics can be taught. Speakers include Columbia faculty member Louis Silverstein, who teaches peace studies and education, and June Terpstra, an activist and lecturer on criminology, law, and terrorism. Free. CCPA Symphony Concert @ Harris Theater

Tonight Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts Chamber and Symphony Orchestra presents its annual series of free concerts featuring some of the school's most gifted performers and faculty at the Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph Drive. The concert is free, but you must reserve your ticket beforehand by calling 312-334-7777. Relax and enjoy performances of the works of Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Richard Wagner and Anton Bruckner. The concert lasts from 7:30- 9:30pm.

Banner Auction @ Daley Center

Ever wonder what happens to those decorative streetlight banners that hang all over the city? They're auctioned off every year as part of a fundraiser for Mayor Daley's Sharing It Program. Bid on banners from the Cubs, Sox, Bears, Bulls, museums, zoos, city festivals, and more. The action kicks off at noon in the lobby of the Daley Center (Washington & Dearborn). Free.

Local Author Night @ Book Cellar
