Atomic Sketch returns to Evil Olive, 1551 W. Division St., from 6pm to 10pm tonight with a special holiday edition of the sketch group. You'll have the opportunity to watch artists Ryan P. Young, Kyle Francis Harter, Blütt, Ethan Hutchinson, Joyce Vallejo, David Johnson, Frederick Kobrick, Czr Prz, Sara Renae Jones, Brett Whitacre and Anjali Bahl draw live, and purchase sketches for just $50 apiece. Other artists are welcome to drop in and sell work as space allows. In addition, Blütt and Czr Prz will hang a show of their artwork in the bar.
Collaboraction, the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation and the League of Chicago Theatres host a free reception and panel discussion on the national and international influences on and by Chicago theatre today from 5:30pm to 7:20pm at The Building Stage, 412 N. The Hideout's annual holiday pantomime returns for six shows Dec. 18-20. This year the story follows the adventures of Charles Darwin (played by Tim Tuten), "a wordy and misunderstood naturalist, searching for the scientific origins of Christ-mas." Also starring Jon Langford, Mike Bulington, Callie Roach, Derek Erdman, Gnat Ward, Amy Lombardi and Janet Bean. Directed by Sally Timms. Joel Berg, the Executive Director of the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, comes to the Book Cellar to discuss his new social/political book All You Can Eat: How Hungry is America?. In the book, Berg draws attention to the poverty and hunger and the increasing number of people that are made to wait in lines at food pantries throughout the country while offering a simple plan to end it for good.
