New Year's Day 5K
Start your weight-loss resolution off on the right foot by running (or walking) in the 24th Annual New Year's Day 5K. The race takes place in Lincoln Park at Stockton and LaSalle, and with an 11am start time, you can still celebrate the night before. $30, with proceeds benefiting the Lakeview Citizens' Council.
Chicago Polar Bear Club Swim
The Chicago Polar Bear Club's annual tradition kicks off at noon today. Each year, hundreds of swimmers congregate on North Avenue Beach (North Ave and Lake Shore Dr) to brave the unbearable temperatures for a bracing dip into Lake Michigan. New American Girl Doll unveiling @ American Girl Place
American Girl unveils Chrissa, their 2009 "Girl of the Year" doll, at the American Girl Place store at 835 N. Michigan Avenue. At 9:15 this morning, the Chrissa window will be unveiled. A Chrissa-themed brunch will take place from 9:30am to 10:30am (tickets are $22) and Mary Casanova, the author of the Chrissa book, will be at the store for a book signing from 1pm to 3pm.
