Songs of Change @ Old Town School

The Old Town School of Folk Music presents an Inauguration Day special: Songs of Change, a short celebration of the day. Join the Old Town School students and staff for a half hour of music and singing. The general public is invited; bring your instruments or just sing along! The fun begins tonight at 9:30pm at the Old Town School's performance hall at 4544 N. Lincoln Avenue. Songs of Change is free for all.

Mr. Smith Goes To Washington @ Doc Films

Doc Films presents an Inauguration Day special: the Frank Capra classic Mr. Smith Goes To Washington. The film screens tonight at 7pm in the Max Palevsky Cinema in Ida Noyes Hall at The University of Chicago (1212 East 59th Street), and admission is a special 2-for-1 price ($5 for two admissions!).

President Barack Obama: Progressive Pragmatist or Political Dupe?

Journalist Salim Muwakkil will present a lecture titled "President Barack Obama: Progressive Pragmatist or Political Dupe?" tonight as part of the East-West Perspectives lecture series. The event begins with a reception at 6:30pm, followed by the lecture at 7pm in the Fourth Floor Auditorium at East-West University, 816 S. Michigan Ave. Free.

Literary Gangs of Chicago @ MCA

This month the Museum of Contemporary Art welcomes Reconstruction Room to their Literary Gangs of Chicago series. The theme for the show is "So Help Me God" and will focus on oaths, promises, commitments and initiations. Free at 6:30pm, 220 E.
