The Reconstruction Room presents "You Give Me Growing Pains, Theodore Huxtable," a series of stories themed on the '80s curated by Mary Hamilton with readings by Jac Jemc, Lindsay Hunter, Mary Hamilton and Jill Summers, Tobias Amadon Bengelsdorf, Nicolette Bond, Meg Barboza, Brian Costello, Zach Plague, Allison Gruber and Erin Teegarden. The Chicago International Movies and Music Festival kicks off tonight with a pre-festival party at St. Paul's Cultural Center (2215 W. North). There will be a screening of the film Yard Work is Hard Work, the Chicago premiere of Jason Buim's documentary Todd P Goes to Austin (with a Q&A session afterwards), and live music by local band Percolator. Andersonville's The Coffee Studio hosts its monthly Scrabble Night tonight between 6:30 and 8:30pm. Boards and dictionaries will be provided -- just show up and you'll be matched with someone of similar skill level. All levels are welcome, from beginner to certified Word Freak. Prizes will be awarded for high scores. The Coffee Studio is located at 5628 N Clark St.
The Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia) holds its Soup and Bread weekly fundraiser tonight for the Greater Chicago Food Depository where local chefs and foodies prepare a selection of soups for your casual slurping from the bar's crock pots. Donations encouraged. Event runs 5-8pm.
