A Hawk And A Hacksaw and Daniel Knox @ The Hideout

Most folk would be pretty hard pressed to follow up in the shadow of Jeff Mangum. But while he'll always just be a bellhop at the Neutral Milk Hotel, Jeremy Barnes (who also attended DePaul for a time) has forged a new life and music in Hungary with Heather Trost as A Hawk And A Hacksaw - a calamity of Balkan music meshed with other European touches. He'll be opening for Andrew Bird on Friday, but why not get within sweating range for half the price?
Opener Daniel Knox is from Chicago but has been getting high praise for performances in at home and abroad. He has performed with Rufus Wainwright and with David Lynch for organ accompaniment to the premiere of Inland Empire at the Music Box. According to Knox's MySpace, another opener (The Hats?) may be added - but keep your fingers crossed for Mr. Lynch. Show starts at 10:00, tickets are $12.
