The Books @ MCA

Julianne Moore @ Bloomingdale's

Actress and children's book author Julianne Moore will be at the Bloomingdale's at 900 North Michigan Avenue today at 3pm to read from and sign her book Freckleface Strawberry and the Dodgeball Bully. In addition to the reading and signing there will be a Q&A session with Ms. Moore, activities & snacks for children and other events in the afternoon.

Mortified! @ Beat Kitchen

Mortified puts embarrassing stories of teen angst onstage for all to see, tonight at the Beat Kitchen, 2100 W. Belmont, at 7:30pm. The Blue Ribbon Glee Club will help soften the blow. Tickets are $10 advance, $15 at the door. 21+

Sell & Swill Yard Sale @ Fizz

On the first and third Sundays of the month, Fizz Bar & Grill (3220 N. Lincoln Ave.) hosts a "Sell & Swill Yard Sale" in their tented beer garden. Booths feature arts & crafts, jewelry, vintage clothes and cool collectibles. Doors open at noon. Free, but if you'd like to rent a booth, it's $10. Call 773-348-6000 for more information.

Cooking Vegetarian for a Cause @ The Chopping Block

The Chopping Block's "Cooking for a Cause" program allows you to learn some new cooking skills and also help out a local charity. Tonight's class, at TCB's Lincoln Square location (2pm, $65 per person), will teach some vegetarian cooking skills. Event benefits the ALIVE Rescue. Registration required.

Red Bull Open Run @ The Aragon

Red Bull hosts its all-day Open Run basketball tournament at The Aragon (1106 W. Lawrence Ave) starting at 5pm tonight. 32 local teams battle it out in a massive street hoops tourney featuring performances from Jamal Smallz and Chicago's own Twista. The b-ball free-for-all also includes demos by local graff writers and free haircuts from Rico da Barber (aka Obama's fadeologist).
